Teutopolis, IL-(Effingham Radio)- On February 28, 2022 at approximately 8:30 pm, the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department, Abbott EMS and Teutopolis Fire Department responded to 307 S. Oak St. in Teutopolis in reference an unresponsive male. Emergency responders arrived and found a male deceased in the residence. The male was identified as Joseph Kells, age 42 of Griggsville, Illinois. The Coroner’s office was notified and responded to the residence.
Joseph Kells was staying in Teutopolis with co-workers from BK Electric in Griggsville, Illinois and doing local work between Teutopolis and Montrose. Joseph Kells fell ill on the way home from work. He was found unresponsive when they checked on him later in the evening.
It appears from the preliminary investigation that Joseph Kells passed away from natural causes, however medical records and toxicology samples were obtained by the Coroner’s office to assist in the death investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for today at 1pm at HSHS St. Anthony Hospital to determine the official cause of death.
The death remains under investigation by the Effingham County Coroner’s office.
