Teutopolis, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The following has been released by the Teutopolis Fire Department on their Facebook Page:
“On Wednesday, 5/4/2022 at 11:12 hours, Teutopolis FPD with auto-aid from Montrose FPD, was dispatched to a reported semi-tractor trailer fire.
Initially reported to dispatch as the brakes were on fire.
En route, a visible “header” was reported by responding personnel 2 miles out.
Upon arrival size was the semi-trailer was fully involved.
The driver had already separated the tractor from the trailer.
Further investigation revealed none of the trailer cargo was hazardous materials – cargo was automotive parts.
The trailer collapsed on its own weight due to the intense fire preventing firefighters from extinguishing an area of fire at the front of the trailer.
A skid steer from Interstate 70 Towing was utilized to gain access and remove “large plastic totes” that were burning within the wreckage of the trailer.
Firefighters cleared the scene at 13:26 hours.
One lane on Eastbound I-70 will remain closed due to debris removal and cleanup.”
