Cumberland County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- At approximately 8:30 pm on Saturday, January 14, 2023, the Illinois State Police responded to a one vehicle crash on I-70 westbound MP 120 just east of Greenup, Illinois in Cumberland County. Upon arrival, the Illinois State Police and emergency responders found the driver unresponsive. The driver was transported to HSHS St. Anthony Hospital Emergency Room in Effingham, Illinois.
The Effingham County Coroner’s office was notified at 10:20 pm by HSHS St. Anthony Hospital that the individual had passed away in the emergency room. The driver was identified as Andrew Zuk, age 48 of St. Charles, Missouri.
Preliminary investigation revealed Mr. Andrew Zuk was traveling westbound on I-70 from Indiana to Missouri when he suffered a medical emergency. This caused him to run off the road, strike a sign post and some small trees on the north side of I-70. Family members advised the coroner’s office that Andrew Zuk suffered another medical emergency involving a traffic crash approximately 3 weeks ago in Missouri where he was injured.
Assisting at the scene of the crash was Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department and Greenup Fire and EMS.
Medical records were requested and toxicology samples were taken by the coroner’s office. The investigation is continuing by the Illinois State Police and the Effingham County Coroner’s office.
