UPDATE: According to a press release from the Sigel Fire Department, the department was paged at 10:30am on Saturday for a barn fire at a farm owned by Jim and Barb Hoene. The department called for mutual aid as the barn, which contained farm equipment and bales of hay was completely engulfed. An estimated 78,000 gallons of water was used to extinguish the blaze. Fire crews cleared the scene of the fire at 4:30pm. The department recieved mutual aid on the scene from Neoga, Windsor, Teutopolis, Wabash, Montrose, Shumway, and Strasburg fire departments. Station coverage was provided by the Montrose, Dieterich, and Beecher City fire departments. They also received assistance from Ryan Walk with a high hoe in knocking down pieces of the barn, as well as the Red Cross, family, and friends that brought the fire crews food and beverages during the blaze. The Fire Marshal is set to investigate the cause of the fire on Monday.
Sigel Fire Department is currently battling a machine shed fire on Shelby County Road 3350th. They are being assisted by the Wabash, Neoga, Shumway and Windsor Fire Departments. Please avoid the area if possible. We will update this story as more details become available.
