Mattoon, IL-(Effingham Radio)- New police officers Luke N. Wilson and Tyler S. Poland graduated from the police academy after fourteen weeks training at the Macon County Law Enforcement Training Center on April 13th and began work as patrolmen for the City of Mattoon. The officers were hired to maintain staffing levels after the retirement of two other MPD officers.
Ofc. Wilson graduated from Mattoon High School, earned an Associate’s Degree from Lakeland College, and a Bachelor’s Degree from Lakeview College of Nursing. Prior to becoming a police officer, Wilson was employed in area hospitals as an R.N. in an emergency room setting. Wilson also won the coveted Physical Fitness Award while at the police academy. He was able to top 51 other recruits who were tested on three separate occasions for a maximum bench press, number of sit-ups completed in under one minute, and a timed 1.5 mile run.
Wilson is the son of Dirk and Sheila Wilson of Mattoon.
Ofc. Poland graduated from Mattoon High School and earned an Associate’s Degree from Lakeland College. Prior to becoming a police officer, Poland was the 2nd shift Supervisor at Pinnacle Foods in Mattoon.
Poland is the son of Robert Poland of Mt. Zion and Karen Poland of Mattoon.
