Mattoon, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Mattoon police arrested Andrew L. Hussong, age 37 of Mattoon, on Monday August 13th at 8:37 p.m. The arrest occurred in the 1000 block of S. 17th street. Hussong was charged with Aggravated Assault.
The incident leading to his arrest began at approx. 6:26 p.m. when a female called for assistance with Hussong, who was acting in an irrational manner. Hussong threatened the female and, upon police arriving, locked himself in a bedroom. Hussong was enraged and advised police that he was armed with a firearm. He made specific threats toward officers. The incident led to a multi-agency response for assistance, and a two hour stand-off.
Efforts to negotiate Hussong’s peaceful surrender were fruitless. At approx. 8:37 p.m. the room in which Hussong had locked himself was breached by members of the Coles County Response Team (CRT) and Hussong was taken into custody.
Hussong was found to be in possession of an airsoft pistol and claw hammer, but no actual firearm. Hussong was taken to SBLHC for evaluation, and then to jail.
Mattoon police were assisted by CRT, Coles County Sheriff’s Deputies, Lakeland and EIU police, Dunn’s Ambulance and the Mattoon fire department.
