Springfield, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Starting January 1st, drivers in Illinois will be expected to know what the Dutch Reach is.
Lawmakers approved a plan in the spring to add questions about bicycle safety to the state’s driver’s test.
The Illinois Secretary of State’s office says the idea is to make sure that new drivers are aware of the rules of the road for cars, trucks, and bikes.
The Dutch Reach, by the way, is the move where you reach across your body with your right hand to open your driver’s side door, which turns your body so you can see if there is a bicyclist coming your way.
