TAYLORVILLE, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Local police agencies were involved in a pursuit that took place on Monday morning.
According to Effingham City Police Chief McFarland, the City Police were notified at 8:00am that a person of interest was in the Effingham area.
Officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop.
The suspect vehicle fled the scene and a pursuit began.
The pursuit then traveled to Route 32/33, headed to Route 128 just west of Beecher City, and then went onto Route 16 east into Shelbyville.
Once in Shelbyville, the pursuit began to head west to Pana, and onto Route 29 into Taylorville.
Once in Taylorville, the Effingham City Police relinquished the pursuit to outside police agencies that had joined the pursuit, according to Chief McFarland.
According to Taylorville City Police Chief Wheeler, Taylorville Police were notified of the pursuit coming into the City and joined the pursuit.
He stated that the pursuit lasted 20-25 minutes in the City.
The pursuit ended at 9:45am, when the suspect vehicle was stopped on Lincoln Trail Road at the City’s Water Treatment Plant.
Both McFarland and Wheeler reported that the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
According to Chief McFarland, a three year old child was in the suspect vehicle at the time of the pursuit.
Chief Wheeler reported that the child was taken by an officer following the pursuit and through work with DCFS and outside police agencies, he believed the child was given to a family member.
According to Effingham Police Chief McFarland, the suspect was a person of interest in a death investigation in Shelbyville.
The death investigation is being handled by the Illinois State Police.
