Barger led police on a multi-county chase after killing pregnant girlfriend
SHELBYVILLE, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Illinois State Police (ISP) have presented the case against Deven A. Barger, a 24-year-old male of Shelbyville, IL, to the Shelby County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Barger has been charged with First Degree Murder and Intentional Homicide of an Unborn Child stemming from his involvement in the July 8, 2019, shooting death of his pregnant girlfriend, Samantha L. Cushing, a 22-year-old female of Shelbyville, IL, at a home on Will Street in Shelbyville, IL.
Later in the morning, Effingham Police Department attempted to take Barger into custody at which time he fled, leading police on a multi-county chase, ending in Christian County, where Barger was safely taken into custody.
Barger was arraigned on the above charges this morning, July 10, 2019, and is being held by the Illinois Department of Corrections on a DOC warrant.
Barger’s bond for charges related to this incident has been set at $5,000,000; 10% applies.
