Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Local EMS crews have been deployed to the East Coast of the United States in preparation of Hurricane Dorian.
According to their respective Facebook Pages, RuralMed EMS and Lakeside EMS have been deployed in preparation of the hurricane.
According to RuralMed EMS’ post, they were given their deployment orders on August 30th and they were stationed in Georgia for the first night.
They then moved to a Forward Operating Base in Lake City, Florida, where they await orders.
The post stated that on Sunday, approximately 50 crews were moved out on missions and on Monday, orders were given for approximately 100 additional ambulances to moved towards Lake City.
According to Lakeside EMS, their crews are anticipating a 7-14 activation.
However, this may change as the situation on the coast evolves.
The post then states that once crews arrive at their assigned area, they will be working under the guidance of FEMA, State, and Local EMS Agencies.
Abbott EMS also received deployment orders to head to the coast.
According to Abbott’s Facebook Post, most of the crews were sent to assist with evacuation of hospitals.
On Tuesday morning, they sent a second group of EMTs and Paramedics to assist FEMA.
Hurricane Dorian made landfall on Sunday in the Bahamas as a powerful Category 5 Hurricane.
According to Hurricanes.gov, the storm has maximum sustained winds at 150mph.
