Effingham, IL -(Effingham Radio)- The following information has been released by the Effingham County Coroner’s Office.
On December 28, 2019, at 2:00 pm. the Coroner’s Office was called to a residence on W. Temple St. in Effingham referencing a male found deceased in his backyard.
The Coroner’s Office arrived and was advised by the Effingham Police Department that the male had been cutting down a tree when it fell on him. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Abbott EMS was also on scene.
The Coroner, Kim Rhodes and Deputy Coroner Rick Manford identified the individual as Eric Emberton, age 51, of Effingham, Illinois.
Neighbors advised that they saw Emberton trimming the limbs and was starting to cut down the tree. They looked out the window a short time later and saw him on the ground. They went to check on him, pulled the tree off of him and found him unresponsive. They called 911.
Emberton’s family advised the Coroner’s Office that Emberton was from Charleston but had relocated to Effingham about 20 years ago when he started working for Patterson Technology.
The investigation continues by the Effingham County Coroner’s Office.
