Altamont, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Two men from the metro-East are in custody following a burglary at the Blue Mound Tavern in rural Altamont, Illinois. Craig E Summers, age 49 of Belleville, Illinois, and Shaun A. Myers, age 39 of Caseyville, Illinois, were taken in to custody on September 4th, 2020 at 1:52 AM by Sheriff’s Deputies while they were investigating a burglar alarm at the Blue Mound Tavern located at 483 E US Hwy 40 in rural Altamont.
On 09/04/2020 at 1:24 AM the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a commercial burglar alarm at the Blue Mound Tavern located on the west side of Altamont. While responding to the business, Sheriff’s deputies observed a suspicious vehicle operating in the area. A vehicle stop was conducted and the driver, Craig Summers, was later linked to the burglary.
At the Blue Mound Tavern, Sheriff’s Deputies found forced entry to the building via a broken window located on the south side of the structure. The second suspect, Shaun A. Myers, was later apprehended by the Sheriff’s Deputies, with the assistance of Illinois State Police Troopers and a State Police K-9 Unit. Myers was apprehended a short distance south of the structure in a bean field.
Both men are charged with Burglary, a class 2 Felony. Currently both men are being held in the Effingham County Jail. Judge Christopher Matouch set bond for Myers in the amount of $100,000.00. Summers bond was set at $150,000.00. They are due back in court on September 8th .
Effingham County Sheriff David Mahon praised the collaborative efforts of the deputies and the troopers stating: “l am proud of the team work of all of those involved. Quick thinking and good police work lead to the apprehension of the suspects within minutes of the crime being committed”.
The two men arrested in this incident are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
