Effingham, IL -(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham County Health Department announced eight new positive cases of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) on Thursday, April 8, and reflected on the anniversary of the announcement of the first COVID related death from our community. Sadly, that death was not to be the only one. Since that day there have been an additional 70 confirmed COVID related deaths and 12 probable death. The ages of those lost from our community ranged from their 50s and up.
We are also aware of those who are still in the hospital, those in rehabilitation facilities and those at home whose health and quality of life of been changed by this virus. There are many individuals known as covid long-haulers in our community, who months later are still experiencing the after effects of COVID. As our community deals with the current surge involving the British variant B.1.1.7 we hope and pray that everyone does their best to ensure more lives are not lost or damaged.
