Louisville, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Republican primary frontrunner Darren Bailey has reported an impressive first-quarter fundraising total of $420,435.65 and is well on his way to victory in the race for Governor of Illinois.
Bailey, a downstate farmer and Illinois State Senator, officially launched his campaign for Governor just two months ago and has since built a remarkable grassroots movement statewide. A favorite amongst Republican grassroots supporters, Bailey’s momentum is evident with more than 1,500 individual donors reported for the first quarter of 2021. Bailey has also outraised both of his Republican primary opponents.
“The political playing field here in Illinois is famous for candidates pouring millions of dollars into their own races and we have an extreme self-funder in the Governor’s mansion today. Darren is proud to run a campaign built on the support of hardworking Illinoisans,” said Bailey’s campaign manager Jose Durbin in a statement.
Elected to the state legislature in 2018, Bailey is a pro-life, pro-Second Amendment conservative who has fought against tax hikes, reckless spending, abortion access expansion, and sanctuary state legislation. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bailey led the charge against sweeping executive orders that shuddered Illinois businesses, collapsed the economy, and deprived hardworking Illinoisans of their livelihoods. He has pledged to continue standing strong against these issues if elected Governor.
“Darren Bailey knows firsthand the meaning of hard work—and he knows that it will take hard work, not just big money to defeat J.B. Pritzker next November,” added Durbin.
The Republican primary contest for Illinois Governor is now less than one year away. Voters choose their nominee on March 15, 2022.
