Mattoon, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The following information is being released by the Mattoon Police Department:
Mattoon Police arrested Jason Fitt, age 47 of Mattoon, for the offenses of Unlawful Possession of Firearm by Felon, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, and Aggravated Assault w/ Firearm.
The arrest occurred on September 10th at 1:55am in the 700 block of S. 22nd St. The charges allege that during an argument with another individual Fitt displayed and discharged a firearm into the ground, next to the other individual. A firearm was later recovered at the scene. Records indicate Fitt has a previous felony conviction, which prevents him from possessing a firearm. Fitt was transported to the Coles County Safety and Detention Center. His bond was set at $125,000 (10% applies).

Mattoon Police arrested Kayla Hellman, age 31 of Mattoon, for the offenses of Possession of Methamphetamine and Bringing a Controlled Substance into a Penal Institution.
The arrest occurred on September 15th at 5:08am in the 2500 block of Marion Ave. Hellman was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation. Drug paraphernalia was located during a search of the vehicle. During Hellman’s arrest Officers became suspicious that she concealed further contraband on her person. She was immediately transported to the Coles County Safety and Detention Center. While at the jail, a further search was conducted on Hellman and Methamphetamine was located. Her bond was set at $5,000 (10% applies).

Mattoon Police arrested Denzle Legg, age 49 of Charleston IL, for the offense of Possession of Methamphetamine.
The arrest occurred on September 19th at 11:41am in the 5400 block of US Highway 45. Legg was stopped on a bicycle and arrested for multiple Coles County warrants. During a search of his person, Officers located Methamphetamine on his person. Legg was transported to the Coles County Safety and Detention Center. His bond was set at $15,000 (10% applies).

Mattoon Police arrested Josiah Blakemore, age 29 of Mattoon, for the offense of Possession of a Controlled Substance.
The arrest occurred on September 19th at 12:30am in the 100 block of Dettro Dr. Mattoon Police Officers were dispatched to a restaurant for a driver of a vehicle passed out. During the investigation a Mattoon K9 was utilized and alerted on the vehicle, indicating an odor of narcotics. During a search of the vehicle Officers located hypodermic syringes and a powdery substance, suspected to be Heroin. Blakemore was transported to the Coles County Safety and Detention Center. His bond was set at $0.

Mattoon Police arrested George Dyson, age 75 of Mattoon, for the offense of Possession of a Cocaine w/Intent to Deliver.
The arrest occurred on September 19th at 9:39pm in the 2400 block of Western Ave. The charge alleges that on September 18th Dyson was stopped for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop a Mattoon K9 was utilized and alerted on the vehicle, indicating an odor of narcotics. Subsequently, Officers located several baggies of cocaine on the passenger. It was later determined that Dyson handed the baggies to the passenger during the traffic stop. Dyson was transported to the Coles County Safety and Detention Center. His bond was set at $15,000 (10%).

Mattoon Police arrested Demetris Watts Sr., age 52 of Mattoon, for the offenses of Battery and Possession of Methamphetamine.
The arrest occurred on September 23rd at 1:18am in the 1200 block of S. 15th St. The charges allege that Watts punched a female within a residence. Later, Officers located Watts hiding in a closet and was taken into custody. During a search of his person Officers located Methamphetamine. Watts was transported to the Coles County Safety and Detention Center. His bond was set at $25,000 (10% applies).

Mattoon Police arrested Matthew Estes, age 46 of Mattoon , for the offense of Possession of Methamphetamine.
The arrest occurred on September 24th at 1:22am in the 2200 block of Shelby Ave. Officers conducted a field interview with Estes and a female subject. During the encounter Officers conducted a search of Estes. Subsequently, they located a baggie of Methamphetamine. Estes was transported to the Coles County Safety and Detention Center. His bond was set at $0.
