Springfield, IL-(Vandalia Radio)- Abortion access now could be an issue in this year’s Illinois elections. After Monday’s revelation of a draft majority opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court indicating the issue of regulating abortions would be put back on individual states, Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Tuesday said Illinois has expanded abortion access and expects to do more. He said with the hint of overturning Roe v. Wade, he expects political action.
A final ruling isn’t expected for weeks. Republican state Sen. Darren Bailey is one of six Republicans looking to take on Pritzker. He criticized Pritzker and Democrats for leaning toward more access to abortion.
Bailey faces a June 28 Republican primary against Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin, businessman Gary Rabine, entrepreneur Jesse Sullivan, former state Sen. Paul Schimpf and attorney Max Solomon.
