Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Childcare Research Committee received good news at the Monday County Board Meeting.
$400K was earmarked for 3 different programs:
- $150,000 for incentives to childcare providers every six months
- $150,000 for gap funding for those who don’t qualify for the Illinois Child Care Assistance Program but are unable to find affordable childcare
- $100,000 for strategic business planning for childcare providers in the county
County Board member John Perry expressed his concern over the amount being earmarked and Board member Doug McCain had some questions, but both voted for the measure, which passed unanimously. Another vote is necessary for the funds to be able to be used.
State’s Attorney Bryan Kibler also formally submitted his resignation, effective Monday, August 22. Kibler was recently appointed Effingham County Resident Circuit Judge. The Board appointed Assistant State’s Attorney Rob Scales as Interim State’s Attorney. The County’s Republican Central Committee is set to make a recommendation for someone to serve until after the November election.
The Board also heard from County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel, who had board members draw for the terms for each county board seat for the next 10 years. The terms are either [two years, four years and four years] or terms of [four years, four years and two years.]
County Treasurer Paula Miller also said that September 2 is the deadline to pay the first installment of your Effingham County property tax bill to avoid a late penalty.
The Board also honored the retirement of Troy Davis (36 years of service) and Eric Higgs (27 years of service) from the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department.
