Pana, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Pana Police Department Facebook Page:
On October 13, 2022, two Class X felonies were filed in Christin County against a Pana man after an investigation led by the Central Illinois Enforcement Group (CIEG), assisted by Pana PD, Christian County Sherriff’s Office, and additional agencies extending into Shelbyville, IL, including East Central Illinois Task Force (ECITF).
Pana PD received multiple complaints over the past couple months of suspected illegal drug activity at 801 S. Poplar Street which caused problems for the neighborhood and also had a negative effect on the entire community. An investigation was opened by CIEG which targeted the initial location. These investigations continued and lead into Shelbyville, IL, which led to the apprehension of an alleged drug dealer and source of the alleged meth dealer at the targeted residence in Pana.
On August 29, 2022, an operation was conducted by members of CIEG and ECITF in Shelby County. Dagan Traylor of Shelbyville, IL, was taken into custody and agents recovered 770 grams of meth, 8 grams of cocaine, more than 100 rounds of ammunition, and six loaded and defaced guns including one rifle, two handguns, and three sawed-off shotguns. This case was originally charged in Shelby County Court but later transferred into the U.S. District Court, Central District of Illinois in Champaign, IL. Traylor, who was out on IL Parole when apprehended, currently remains in Federal custody.
On October 13, 2022, Christian County State Attorney Poggenpohl approved and filed two Class X Felonies against Dakoda Cantrell of 801 S. Poplar, Pana; Meth Delivery 15-100 grams, and Meth Delivery 100-400 grams. Cantrell, who is already in custody in Christian County on a Class 3 Meth Possession 5-15 grams after an arrest in Pana, is being held at Christian County Correctional Center on $250,000.00 bond. Cantrell was also out on IL Parole when apprehended by Pana Police.
Both of these arrests were a direct result of dedicated Officers working tirelessly to reduce the horrendous impact of illegal drugs. It is not only important to close down the drug dealer and drug house within our Community, but it is also necessary to aggressively target those who are supplying drugs into our City. The timing of these cases can be very frustrating as we all want instant results to stop the immediate problem, but there are times when it may take longer to produce results more consequential for the offender, and more lasting and beneficial for our Community.
We are very fortunate to have officers from Pana PD and the Christian County Sheriff’s Office assigned to CIEG which performs at the highest level of professionalism, operated and supervised by the Illinois State Police.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
