Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham Board of Education heard from Transportation Director Kristen Harvey about new software for district school buses to help more with safety.
Harvey said lots of the things she does manually can be taken care of with this new software, including mapping routes, fleet maintenance, and notifying parents and students when the bus is running late. Since not all Board members were in attendance at the meeting, the vote on the software was tabled to the next meeting.
The tentative fiscal year tax levy was approved and final action is scheduled for a future meeting. Johnson also reported that the district was approved for its $50,000 school maintenance grant. He said the funds will be used for HVAC at Southside School.
The Board approved replacement of the stage curtains of Effingham Junior High School. The expense will be $50,000 or less.
There was discussion of LIFT, which stands for Leaders Innovating for Tomorrow. It’s an initiative from the Mattoon school district, which is offering programs to numerous school districts in the region. 11 districts are currently participating, 104 students total. The Board approved an agreement with McLain Schaefer of the Mattoon district to research how Unit 40 students could utilize the program moving forward.
The Board then recognized member Jane Willenborg, who was awarded a Distinguished Board Leader award from the Illinois Association of School Boards. Willenborg has served the district’s representative with the Wabash Valley Division of the IASB for the last half a dozen years.
