Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The newly elected Board members will take the mantle at the next County Board Meeting, as many of the current members did not seek re-election, including County Board Chairman Jim Niemann.
Niemann is one of 5 members total that did not seek re-election, and all of them used the end of this meeting to thank their constituents for their support, and thanked fellow board members as well. Niemann said, “We have worked hard to do our best. For those friendships I have developed, I am thankful. For friendships lost, I am sorry.” Departing members Joe Thoele, Heather Mumma, John Perry, and Rob Arnold also gave their thanks.
Heather Mumma also read aloud the “No Kill” resolution that was just passed, stating that she fully supported the measure. Mumma invited Mary Ellen Eversman, an animal rights supporter, to be present during the reading of the passed resolution. Eversman mentioned that pets can bring joy to even the loneliest individuals who need them.
The Board also:
- Approved the disbursement of $150,000 in earmarked funds for Childcare Research to initiate a childcare gap scholarship program
- Earmarked $50,000 for Mason Township Park District
- Disbursed $14,000 for Heartland Human Services
- Approved $345,000 for the purchase of buses for Heartland Human Services
- Approved up to $440,000 for the County Clerk and Recorder office for upgrades to recorder software
- Approved was appropriation of $1,000,000 for the purchase of property and building improvements
- Approved the purchase of an additional vehicle for the sheriff’s department
