Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- At approximately 3:25 pm on Monday, December 12, 2022, the Effingham City Police received a call of an unresponsive male at the Pilot Truck Stop on north Rt. 45. Officers arrived and discovered a male lying beside a vehicle with individuals performing CPR. Rural Med EMS arrived and transported the individual to St. Anthony Hospital. The male was pronounced deceased at the emergency room at 4:16 pm.
The Coroner’s office was notified and responded to the hospital. The male was identified as Richard Lacroix, age 62 of Elliot Lake, Ontario. The coroner’s office contacted his sister and brother in Canada and they indicated he had a history of heart disease.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Mr. Lacroix was with a group of people driving cars from Kansas City, Missouri back to Canada. Mr. Lecroix complained of chest pains the past two days. When they pulled off at the Pilot Truck Stop he collapsed when he got out of the car.
No foul play is involved and the investigation is continuing by the Coroner’s office.
