Springfield, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Central Illinois residents have organized to oppose the Heartland Greenway CO2 pipeline.
Karen Brockelsby, treasurer for Citizens Against the Heartland Greenway Pipeline, farms in Christian County. Her concern is the environmental waste leaks.
Texas based Navigator wants to build a 1,300-mile pipeline to transport pressurized, liquified carbon dioxide from ethanol and fertilizer plants and pump it into the ground. Brockelfey fears the pipeline will rupture because a sudden change of pressure in the pipeline can lead to a running ductile fracture.
She says people within a mile of the pipeline could die if there would be a rupture.
