On Tuesday night in a tune up before the conference tournament begins next week. Altamont comes away with the win but it did not come as easy as the final margin would indicate. The CHBC Bobcats came in ready to play and ready to pull off the upset. As it was only a three point game at halftime. Altamont did eventually pull away in the second half and win 72-46.
Altamont started the game out of the gates on a 5-0 run with a free throw from Eric Kollmann, a reverse layup from Mason Robinson and a steal and layup for Logan Cornett. CHBC would come back with a basket by Clayton Wojcik and a three from Kaidyn Calame to tie the game 5-5. Indians would get it going from behind the arc with threes from Dillan Elam, Robinson and two threes from Jared Hammer. Wojcik would keep the Bobcats hanging around scoring six in the quarter but Altamont had the lead 18-11.
CHBC would come on strong in the second and take the lead with a few minutes to go in the half. Carter Bain would make a couple of threes to give the Bobcats their first lead of the game 21-20. Both teams would trade the lead back and fourth for the remainder of the quarter. Robinson would make a three near the end of the quarter to give the Indians the lead 29-26 at halftime.
The second quarter got off to an odd start. In the opening few minutes Coach Niebrugge was hit with two technicals and told to hit the locker room from an official. That would send Calame to the line for four free throws but unfortunately for the Bobcats was only able to convert on one of the four, to only cut the lead to 29-27. After the technicals seemed to spark the Indians and turned up the scoring. Robinson would put the team on his back and score ten in the quarter. Another three from Elam would give Altamont some breathing room and the Indians would double up the Bobcats in the quarter 20-10, to take the 47-36 lead after three.
The offense would continue to roll in the fourth; as Elam would put up nine, Aver Jahraus would connect on his first three of the game and Aden McManaway would splash home a three as well. A Kollmann steal and finger roll would be the exclamation point of the second half. Altamont wins in a closer game than the final 72-46 would indicate.
Altamont improves to 16-3 overall and 4-0 in the NTC. The Indians are off until the conference tournament begins next week where they could see CHBC again. As Altamont will be the one seed and will take on either the winner Neoga or CHBC next Tuesday.
CHBC falls to 6-13 overall and 0-4 in the NTC. Bobcats are back action on Friday vs South Central before the conference tournament.
