On the second night of the NTC Girls Tournament and on the second game of the night for Windsor / Stew-Stras. It the Hatchets who came out victorious 63-61.
Altamont started off the game well in the first quarter jumping out to an early lead, as it seemed like every shot was falling for the Indians. Claire Boehm came out and dropped six and Libby Reardon would make a three to build up the Altamont to ten, 12-2. The Hatchets came storming back thanks in part to the seven points dropped by Ella Kinkelaar. W/SS clawed their way back in it to only trail 17-13 after one.
The Hatchets would go on a run and take the lead in the second quarter. Stew-Stras got in front thanks to ten points from Samatha Hayes. It would be back and fourth for most of quarter. As Reardon would make her second three, Kylie Osteen and Skylie Kline poured in five and four respectively. The comeback by the Indians tied the score at 32 going into the locker room.
W/SS came out of the locker room and took a strangle hold on the lead. Kinklaar would make one from three point range and Hayes would have a big bucket as well. It was Altamont closeing out the quarter strong to take the lead back. As Klien and Reardon would have some big buckets and Sophia Pearcy would make a three pointer. The Indians would finish the quarter in the lead 44-43.
In the fourth quarter Hays came up in the clutch pouring in six, including a three to give her 20 on the game. Ellie Wittenberg would also make a clutch three as well. W/SS would be clutch at the free throw line, going 8/10 down the stretch. Altamont had their chances though in a back and fourth final period. Altamont down by four, Klien stepped up and made another huge three to cut the deficit to one with 7.5 seconds left. W/SS would leave the door open for a comeback as they would throw away the inbounds pass. Only for Altamont to turn the ball over as well. The Hatchets would make their free throws to make it a 63-61 final. Altamont lets one slip away after having several key turnovers in big spots.
Altamont falls to 11-13 on the season and slides into the 7th Place game on Saturday at 2:30 P.M. The Indians will either take on the losing team from the CHBC vs South Central game, which are set to square off on Thursday at 5:30 P.M.
W/SS improves to 8-13 on the season and advances to the consolation championship on Saturday to take on the winner of that CHBC/South Central game.
