On Thursday night in the semi finals of the NTC Tournament Altamont held off a strong comeback by Dieterich to advance back to the championship game. They will try to defend their crown getting there with a 59-48 win over the Maroons.
The game started out well for Altamont, almost similar to the earlier month matchup between the two teams. The Indians got out to a quick 4-0 lead. Lucas Westendorf for Dieterich made a three to cut the lead to 4-3. Then Altamont would catch fire from three, specifically from Dillan Elam who made three from beyond the arc. The other point of emphasis was get it in the post to Eric Kollmann. Kollmann had eight in the opening quarter. Coach Bohnoff called a time out to stop the momentum but it did little to help the lead growing to 22-5 after one.
Elam and Kollmann would get a couple more buckets in the next quarter to make it 11 and 10 respectively in the half. It was the Maroons who would settled down and get their offense clicking. As Kolton Kidd and Jaxon Funneman pouring in five and four points respectively of their own. The lead remined 17 as both teams had ten in the quarter with the score 32-15 at the half.
The Maroons would getting moving and comeback out of the locker with a vengeance. Kidd would make another three, Westendorf would have some big buckets and Caleb Gephart would have a big and-one to pull the Maroons within three.
That however was as close as Dieterich would get.
The Indians would regain control with a three from Avery Jahraus. Altamont would hang on to the lead 41-35 after three.
Just as quickly the Maroons got back into it, the lead would get back up to double figures. Altamont would do just enough in the 4th to come away with the win. Another three from Jahraus, three free throws from Elam and Eli Miller would come up clutch going 4-4 from the line. The Indians would go on to win 59-48 and advance to the championship game once again.
Altamont improves to 18-3 on the season and win streak now stands at 13. Indians will face with winner of Friday’s matchup between North Clay and St. Anthony in the championship game on Saturday at 7:30 P.M.
Dieterich falls to 12-9 on the season and will fall into the third place game against losing team of that North Clay and St. A matchup on Saturday.
