Marshall, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Marshall Public Library is pleased to announce a new family reading challenge called “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” that celebrates early learning and the fun of sharing stories. Families are invited to read books with their child and track their child’s reading journey from birth to Kindergarten.
WHY 1000 BOOKS?
The best way to ensure a child has the skills necessary to learn to read is to have someone read aloud to them. Not only does it help the child learn to read but also helps instill a love for lifelong learning.
WHO CAN SIGN UP?
Any child in the Marshall School District from birth until kindergarten, at any age.
WHAT BOOKS COUNT?
Books read anytime by teachers, librarians, family, and most importantly by you! If you read a book more than once that counts too! As well as e-books.
HOW TO KEEP TRACK?
Sign up by using the “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” reading app, by getting a tracking sheet at the library’s circulation desk or by visiting us online via Facebook or our library webpage. Track your child’s first 100 books using any of the three methods and show library staff the first 100 books read to get your “100 Books Reading Certificate” and key chain tag. For each additional 100 books read, another tag will be earned. Special awards will be given to children who complete 500 books and 1000 books.
HOW MANY BOOKS DO WE READ A WEEK TO REACH 1000 BOOKS?
Reading one book a day for three years equals 1095 books, so don’t fret if you didn’t start when your child was an infant.
