Marshall, IL-(Effingham Radio)-Each year Marshall Public Library offers guided school tours for hundreds of local students, with 700 students in attendance this school year. For several years, the library has been fortunate to host nationally acclaimed traveling exhibits in conjunction with school tours with names such as the Smithsonian, NASA, and Paly Foundation. Last year the library featured a Geocache exhibit brought to area students and the public by the Chamber of Commerce. This year, a unique opportunity arose with the creation of a Disney inspired museum right next door to the library that also included a compilation of various items such as John Deere toy tractor sets, collectible cookie jars, and artwork by local artists.
Area students and public are invited to the library to enjoy two more upcoming traveling exhibits with one this fall featuring Americans and the Holocaust from the United States Holocaust museum in Washington, D.C. and in the spring of 2024 a traveling Smithsonian exhibit also from Washington, D.C. called Spark! Places of Innovation which will feature local companion exhibits on the Handy Writers’ Colony and Gaslight Art Colony.
The Fitzjarrald Museum, formally the Marshall Advocate, is open to the public by appointment by contacting Robert Fitzjarrald, the curator and son (Floyd Fitzjarrald Jr.) of the museum’s collection, at 217-254-0524. For more information about upcoming exhibits you may visit the library at 612 Archer Avenue, in Marshall, Illinois, online at www.marshallillibarry.com or on Facebook. The library is handicap accessible.
