On Sunday 6/4/2023 at 17:02 hours Teutopolis with auto-aid from Montrose were dispatched to a reported 3 semi tractor trailer accident, I 70 eastbound at mile marker 103. This is within the ongoing construction zone which is a single lane eastbound and single lane westbound. All eastbound traffic was at a complete halt.
Upon arrival, investigation revealed no entrapment, all drivers self extricated. One driver was evaluated by Rural Med EMS but refused transport. No hazardous cargo, no hazardous spills. Eastbound traffic quickly backed up beyond the I 57 / I 70 split west of the accident (mile marker 99). IDOT crews diverted all eastbound traffic on to I 57 northbound to follow posted detour routes. Additionally traffic was also utilizing IL Route 40 through Teutopolis and Montrose to Greenup.
ISP Troop 9 is investigating the cause of the accident. All fire and EMS apparatus cleared the scene at 18:12 hours. Heartland Towing & Recovery had 3 heavy wreckers on scene to clear the lane of traffic. Eastbound traffic was re-opened at approximately 18:30 hours.
