Martinsville, IL-(Effingham Radio)-The Illinois State Police recently investigated a fatal traffic crash that occurred in Clark County on Friday.
According to a press release from the Illinois State Police, the accident occurred on I-70 westbound at milepost 139 near Martinsville at 5:45pm.
The report states that a semi-tractor-trailer driven by 44 year old, Nirvair S Sandhu, of Brampton, Ontario, Canada was traveling westbound on I-70 at milepost 139.
At the same time, a semi-tractor-trailer driven by 48 year old, Samuel F Anthony, of Midway, Texas, a Ford Explorer driven by 63 year old, Jerry L Waggoner, of Wann, Oklahoma, and a semi-tractor-trailer driven by 48 yeard old, Ibrahim Hodzic, of Windsor, Ontario, Canada were stopped in traffic.
For an unknown reason, Sandhu failed to stop and struck the rear of Anthony’s vehicle.
This caused Anthony to strike the rear of Waggoner and, in turn, Waggoner to strike the rear of Hodzic.
Sandhu’s vehicle and the trailer of Anthony’s vehicle became engulfed in fire.
Sandhu was fatally injured in the accident and was pronounced deceased by the Clark County Coroner at the scene.
Anthony, Waggoner, and Waggoner’s passenger, 59 year old, Nancy Waggoner, of Wann, Oklahoma were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Hodzic did not report injuries at the scene.
I-70 westbound traffic was rerouted to US Route 40 at exit 147, reopening at 9:30am.
