Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Our listening area could see severe weather today.
According to the National Weather Service, a line of storms is expected to move quickly at 40-50mph into Central Illinois this afternoon and evening.
The majority of Central Illinois is under an Enhanced or level 3 of 5 for severe weather chances.
Hazards with today’s storms are a 30% chance of wind gusts in excess of 75mph, a 15% chance of hail greater than 2 inches in diameter, and a 2% chance for strong tornadoes rated at an EF 2 or higher.
The main threat for severe wind gusts and hail will be along and south of a Beardstown to Champaign line.
The threat for tornadoes is south of a Havana to Bloomington line.
Storms are expected to move into Central Illinois around 3:00pm and will move into Eastern Illinois around 9:00pm.
