Springfield, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Illinois Freedom Caucus is issuing the following statement on the recent United States Supreme Court ruling in the Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President and Fellows of Harvard College case.
“Racism has no place in our society. We cannot hope to ever right past wrongs by committing new wrongs. Colleges that denied black applicants simply on the basis of the color of their skin committed a grave evil. The way to stop racism is to stop enacting racist policies and that is exactly what the Supreme Court has done with their ruling.
As Justice Clarence Thomas noted in his Concurring opinion, ‘Those policies fly in the face of our colorblind Constitution and our Nation’s equality ideal. In short, they are plainly—and boldly—unconstitutional…While I am painfully aware of the social and economic ravages which have befallen my race and all who suffer discrimination, I hold out enduring hope that this country will live up to its principles so clearly enunciated in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States: that all men are created equal, are equal citizens, and must be treated equally before the law.’
May it be so.”
The Illinois Freedom Caucus is comprised of State Representatives Chris Miller (R-Oakland), chairman; Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City), vice-chairman; Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich); Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville); Dan Caulkins (R-Decatur); Jed Davis (R-Newark) and David Friess (R-Red Bud).
