Charleston, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Eastern Illinois University leaders are excited to announce Amie Calvert has accepted an offer to return to campus September 1 as the University’s Director of Employee & Labor Relations.
“Amie has an outstanding reputation at EIU for her leadership, diplomacy, and ability to create relationships with employee groups and their representatives across campus,” said Matt Bierman, Vice President for Business Affairs at the Charleston, Illinois-based public regional University. “Her career accomplishments speak deeply to her capability in this position, and her familiarity with EIU’s brand, culture, and people are an invaluable asset to the Eastern Illinois University community.”
With thirteen years of senior leadership, Calvert has a proven track record of success in leading negotiations, overseeing contract administration, and establishing successor agreements. She has experience in various employee relations activities using best-practice human resource methods to achieve collaborative resolutions. According to colleagues, she is an excellent communicator who routinely demonstrates a significant ability to perform, often under pressure and with firm deadlines.
Calvert returns to EIU following a year at Vincennes University (Indiana) in a government/legal affairs compliance capacity, where she led efforts to develop, implement, and monitor institutional compliance on various topics. Calvert will reprise the Director of Employee & Labor Relations position at EIU with institutional direction from Plan 2028—EIU’s newly adopted, multi-year strategic plan, helping the University and its employees navigate new challenges and achieve new levels of success.
As EIU’s lead negotiator, Calvert will work closely with representatives from Eastern’s 10 unions and manage 13 separate collective bargaining agreements. She will provide guidance and direction on employee-related activities, ensure compliance with human resource practices, mediate disputes, offer recommendations for employee improvement, and assist in mutually resolving a variety of employee and contractual matters.
Prior, Calvert served EIU as an officer in the University Police Department (2007-10). She also has been employed regionally in healthcare administration, both as a crisis clinician and as a charge nurse. Calvert also served in the Illinois Army National Guard as a neurodiagnostic technologist, having earned a diploma from St. John’s School of Neurology in Springfield. Calvert holds Master of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees from EIU, as well as a Nursing diploma from Lake Land College in Mattoon.
