Pana, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Volunteers are being sought for “The Flagman’s Mission Continues,” an event to honor Senior Airman Jace W. Christer of the US Air Force, who died while serving on active duty. The volunteers will be setting up 600 3x5ft US Flags on Wednesday, September 13th along Mr. Christer’s funeral route and, if available, take down the same flags after the funeral on September 15th. This is a community project, giving you the chance to honor a local fallen hero.
Volunteers are asked to meet up at the Pana Christian Church at 1005 East 6th Street in Pana at 4pm on September 13th. Jeff Hastings, President of “The Flagman’s Mission Continues,” will provide instructions on how to use the post drivers and how to unfurl the flags for display. They ask that you please bring work gloves and wear comfortable walking shoes. Anyone able to walk and carry 10lbs can help with this rain or shine event. Pickup trucks and empty vans are welcome to help haul the flags. Volunteers 12 years and older are preferred. September 15th take down will meet at the same place, Pana Christian Church at 4pm on September 15th. Jeff Hastings will once again supervise to make sure the flags are prepared properly to be put back in the van.
Visitation for Mr. Christer will be September 14th at 7pm, with the funeral the following day at 10am in Pana Christian Church. Pastor Antonio Sutton will lead the service, and the burial will follow at Mound Cemetery in Pana, with military rites provided by the US Air Force.
