On Friday afternoon it was the final day of the 44th Annual Bob Kerans Tournament and it was Altamont salvaging a tournament win. The Lady Indians used a balanced offensive effort with four players in double figures, adding up to a 76-34 win against Flora.
The game started out with both teams coughing up the basketball but Altamont was able to take advantage of the turnovers to build a solid lead. Grace Nelson paced the attack with eight in the opening quarter. It was Nelson along with Sophia Pearcy, Kaylee Lurkins and Peyton and Kylie Osteen getting into the scoring column as well. Altamont had the 17-6 lead after one.
Flora fell behind in the 2nd quarter but finished strong and ended up keeping up with the Indians. It was Leah Jones and Elena Warren who led the Wolfgals charge in the second, scoring nine and seven in the first half respectively. Even with the scoring outburst by Flora, Altamont still held the 39-24 lead at halftime.
Altamont really took control in the 3rd outscoring the Wolfgals 31-8 in the quarter. The Indians did so by a great team effort running the floor, second chance opportunities and extra passes. Peyton Osteen had eight in the quarter knocking down a couple of threes. Brianna Grunloh poured it six in the quarter as well. Altamont used their fabulous third quarter to get the lead up enough for the running clock in the final quarter.
Four players hit double figures for the Lady Indians: Nelson had 24, Grunloh had 12, Lurkins had 11 and Peyton Osteen finished with 10. Altamont improves to 3-2 on the season and will return to action Monday traveling to take on Dieterich in a NTC matchup.
Flora falls to 0-4 on the season.
