Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The City of Effingham will likely have a new sports complex located along Route 40 at Schwerman Street sometime in the near future.
The Effingham City Council held a special meeting today at 9am to approve the proposal, an agreement with the City and a not for profit 3rd party to build a new sports complex, which will be named the Effingham Showcase Center. The agreement stipulates that $18M be raised for the complex in a 12 month period.
City Council members expressed their support for the complex, stating that this is a great use of hotel/motel funds, will help the City bring in more revenue, and will bring more people to the City.
This comes after the recent Unit #40 meeting where the board voted to sell 25 acres of land west of the Effingham High School sports complex to the City of Effingham. The transaction is contingent on Ryan Engel, an Effingham resident, raising the money agreed on by both parties.
