Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Commissioner Larry Micenheimer assumed the mayoral role (pro tempore) for the City Council meeting held Tuesday, as Mayor Mike Schutzbach was absent from the meeting. Commissioner Hank Stephens was also absent.
Lots of discussions were had regarding road work and construction, as well as an extension of Santa Maria Road from Maple to 4th Street. The project with Milano and Grunloh of Effingham will cost $420,184.
Improvements to East Evergreen were also part of the discussion, as there is a need for a box culvert that will require extra funds. Bid lettings for the culvert will be January 30.
City Planner Greg Koester gave details on crypto and data mining, as he believes Effingham will eventually need a data center for crypto data-mining. Tourism Director Jodi Thoele also spoke about the Wonderland in Lights, as it was a huge success this year. Jodi reported that over 11000 vehicles drove through the displays, and over $24k were received in donations. She said the light displays will remain up for a few more nights as city crews start periodically taking them down.
