Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham Fire Department received a call at 1250 for a report of a house full of smoke at 1307 South Willow Street. Upon arrival, there was smoke showing from the exterior rear of the house.
Fire crews performed an aggressive interior fire attack and contained the fire to the basement. Crews did find five deceased animals (3 cats, 2 dogs). Firefighters were on the scene for just under two hours.
The fire is still under investigation. Damage is estimated at $100,000. Effingham Fire Department was assisted by Effingham City Dispatch, Effingham Police Department, Rural Med EMS, Teutopolis FPD, Shumway FPD, and Altamont FPD. Station coverage was provided by Dieterich FPDs.
