Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Wintry weather is on the way to the local area.
A strong winter storm will affect the area late this afternoon through late Tuesday night, bringing snow, rain, and gusty winds. A period of quieter weather moves in for Wednesday, while seasonable temperatures continue, before the next potential system late this week.
Snow will overspread much of central IL this evening, continuing overnight. Low pressure tracking through the state will draw warm air north, changing the snow to rain for much of central IL Tuesday, before a change back to light snow Tuesday night, along with gusty winds.
West to northwest winds will increase on the back side of low pressure Tuesday night and become gusty, with winds speeds reaching 40-45 mph at times. This will lead to blowing and drifting of the snow, resulting in dangerous driving conditions.
