Mahomet, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Office of State Senator Chapin Rose:
The Pritzker Administration has finally decided to hold off on proposed cuts to the Intellectually and Developmentally Disabled Community (I/DD), according to State Senator Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet).
“These cuts would have been devastating to our state’s most vulnerable population, the developmentally disabled,” said Rose. “Thankfully, there was swift and fierce bipartisan pushback to these cuts, and we were able to get the Pritzker Administration to institute a temporary halt, which is a good first step in the right direction.”
Last week, Senator Rose penned a letter to the administration asking them to prioritize the people of the I/DD community who are some of the state’s most vulnerable citizens. Every member of the Senate Republican Caucus signed onto his letter. Rose also signed onto a bi-partisan letter in opposition to the cuts. Numerous other lawmakers on both sides of the aisle had also been speaking out publicly against the proposed cuts.
“When we all work together for what is right, we can make a difference,” said Rose. “I’m glad the administration has begun to listen to our pleas; however, this pull back is only temporary. In the coming months of the Illinois General Assembly, I will work with members of the disability community, legislators on both sides of the aisle, and the Governor’s office to permanently rescind these cuts. We still have significant work ahead of us; for today, however, I am glad that the Governor’s administration is hitting the pause button.”
