Washington, DC-(Effingham Radio)- Americans now have an Obesity Bill of Rights. That announcement comes from the National Consumers League and the National Council on Aging.
It establishes eight essential rights to ensure that people who are obese get screened, diagnosed, counseled and treated according to medical guidelines. The move comes ten years after the American Medical Association classified obesity, which affects more than one-hundred-million Americans, as a chronic disease requiring comprehensive care. Other goals include battling bias, weight discrimination and exclusionary coverage policies by insurance companies.
