On Friday February 2, 2024, at approximately 2:54 a.m. the Clay County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Vic’s Café in Wendelin for a burglary in progress. Upon the arrival of deputies it was discovered the suspect(s) had fled from the scene. Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services were dispatched to process and collect evidence at the scene. Later that afternoon with assistance from neighboring law enforcement agencies the sheriff’s office was able to identify the suspect(s) in the burglary.
On Sunday February 4, 2024, the sheriff’s office received information from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office that they had taken individuals into custody in reference to a burglary that occurred in Jasper County. Upon further investigation deputies determined that two of individuals in Jasper County’s custody were suspects in the Vic’s Café Burglary.
As a result of the investigation, Trevor L. Lindemann, 33, and Haleigh J. Bail, 21, both of Newton are being held on local charges in the Jasper County Jail and also for the offense(s) of Burglary relating to the incident at Vic’s Café. The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Effingham Police Department, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Newton Police Department, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services and Clay County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
