Carbondale, IL-(Effingham Radio)- On April 18th, 3 South Central FFA members participated in the SIUC Public Speaking Career Development Event, held at SIUC. This competition provides FFA members with the opportunity to develop agricultural leadership and aims to provide the opportunity for personal growth and premier leadership by enhancing the speaking skills of students participating.
Miranda Yates and Lydia Flowers participated in the Junior Prepared Public Speaking competition Prepared Public Speaking requires the students to choose an agriculture-related topic, write, and carry out a 6-8 minute speech on that topic. Miranda Yates placed 1st and Lydia Flowers placed 5th in the Invitational Public Speaking.
We had another member, Kenzie Sullens that participated in Extemporaneous Public Speaking and placed 4th in the Invitational Extemporaneous Public Speaking Portion! This field requires participants to write a 4-6 minute speech on a random agriculture topic in 30 minutes, memorize it, and perform it in front of the judges.
