Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Students from the Effingham area, including Dieterich, Teutopolis, & Altamont, celebrated Law Day with a tour of the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, and then went to Accuracy Firearms in Effingham to hear from Sheriff Kuhns about a live fire exercise where each student got a chance to fire an MP5 Hekler and Koch 9mm submachine gun in the indoor firing range. Each student was given eye and ear protection before they went into the range.
Sheriff Kuhns started by having all the students sit in a classroom-like room to go over the details of the exercise, and explained the firearm they would be using.
A few other officers were there to help, including K9 Sheriff Dale. After Sheriff Kuhns explained the exercise, he moved the students to the viewing area for the firing range. Each student was given the choice to fire the submachine gun in semi-auto and automatic fire mode.
Sheriff Kuhns kicked off the firing range exercise so students knew the proper stance, and how to hold the weapon properly. He even let our News Director Derek Warren fire a few rounds.
Pictures of the students can be seen below.
All students that took part in this exercise were from local area schools. Sheriff Kuhns thanked Accuracy Firearms for hosting this event free of charge.
