Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The City of Effingham would like to congratulate Emergency Management Agency Coordinator, Larry Thies, on being awarded Employee of the Quarter, as well as Employee of the Year, as a part of the City’s Employee Recognition Program.
These Employee Recognition Awards recognize an employee for demonstrating either distinguished or extraordinary service throughout the year or other accomplishments that typically go unnoticed but are worthy of recognition. To receive Employee of the Year, you must also be awarded Employee of the Quarter.
Thies was nominated for both Employee of the Quarter and Employee of the Year, for going above and beyond his job duties as the EMA Coordinator. Thies’ dedication to service has ensured the safety and preparedness of our community during critical times throughout the year.
Thies spearheaded the City of Effingham’s preparation for the solar eclipse, a rare and significant event that drew large crowds and presented unique challenges. With a methodical approach, he ensured all safety protocols were in place, effectively coordinating with multiple agencies to provide clear communication and resources to the public. Furthermore, Larry has been instrumental in the development of assembling a damage assessment team. Recognizing the importance of a swift response following any incident, he has improved both the training and the processes involved in effectively evaluating and responding to damages after an emergency. Most notably, under Larry’s leadership, the development of a functional Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been a game-changer. His foresight in the design and implementation of the EOC has significantly enhanced our emergency management capabilities, enabling a centralized, efficient response to crises that will protect citizens and infrastructure, alike.
These contributions are a testament to Thies’ unwavering commitment to our community’s safety and resilience. His work often goes on behind the scenes, but it is the backbone of our city’s emergency preparedness and response.
The City appreciates your continued participation in our Employee Recognition Program. If you notice a City employee going above and beyond to serve you, please let us know by calling City Hall at 217-342-5300 or emailing jkemper@effinghamil.com!
