Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Julie Sloan is giving back to the community through Relay for Life. We at Cromwell Media are raising funds for Relay for Life by selling tickets for a chance to win the quilt made by Julie Sloan, made with help from a local business, Thrivent Financial, who donated $250 to offset the cost of making the quilt.
Julie gave a little background on how she started on this journey.
“In March of 2013, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After 10 long months of treatments that included chemotherapy, radiation, a double mastectomy, I was deemed cancer free. During my treatments, I received so much support from family, friends, and strangers that have become friends. I wanted to find a way to give back. That is when I decided I wanted to learn how to quilt and donate one each year to the Effingham County Relay For Life. Just this past year I have done 12 quilts through a collaborative effort with my grandmother and her great grandchildren. This is my 9th quilt for Relay for Life. My journey began 11 years ago, and look forward to continuing this tradition for many more years.”
You can call our office at 217-342-4141 to purchase tickets for a chance to win the quilt pictured above. Proceeds benefit the Effingham County Relay For Life. Tickets are $1 each, or 6 for $5.
