Altamont, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Altamont City Council held their regular meeting 2 weeks after now former Mayor of Altamont Dan Milleville abruptly resigned, and lots of residents attended to express various concerns about the community.
Topics of discussion during the public comment included sidewalks that need repaired, ditches and culverts that need fixed or replaced, and tree removal. The discussion got a little heated at times, with residents also expressing frustration over yards not mowed or in disarray, water lines that need replaced, and traffic concerns. There were questions about Nori’s Yard that the Council answered, and a resident on a dead end road (Wurl Lane), Becky Turner, wants the road opened back up to prevent people from using her driveway as a turnaround. The Council thanked all residents who attended and said that they “have a lot to think about.”
The Council then went through their regular agenda items and approved:
- Northwest Sanitary Sewer Replacement (Kieffer Bros Construction for $9,462.55)
- Payment to R&H Plumbing and Heating in amount of $137,899
- Effingham County Fair Parade on July 28th
- 2024 Street Oiling to Larry Heuerman Trucking for $56,724
The Council also tabled the request for alternate proposal for sale of property at 107 North Main Street.
The next City Council meeting for the City of Altamont will be July 10th at 6pm.
