Teutopolis, IL-(Effingham Radio)- On August 20th, 2024, the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office arrested 39-year-old Jerrod M. Estes of Teutopolis. Estes is being charged with False Personation of a Peace Officer, Unlawful Restraint, and Aggravated Battery. Estes was taken into custody without incident at his Teutopolis residence.
The arrest is the result of the investigation of an incident that occurred in rural Effingham County on May 21st, 2024, where the victims believed they were being pulled over by a law enforcement officer. One of the victims knew the encounter was odd, and she reported it to police. Effingham County Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives have worked since the date of the report, investigating the case, collecting evidence, and conducting interviews.
The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by The Effingham City Police, The Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services (CSI), and the Effingham County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Estes is being held at Effingham County Jail with no bond and will tentatively have his first court appearance on Wednesday, August 21st, 2024, to determine if he meets the criteria for further detention under the Pre-Trial Fairness Act.
Even though Estes has been charged as a result of this investigation, he should be presumed innocent, until proven guilty in a court of law.
