Lake Shelbyville, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Coalshaft South parking lot and boat ramp at Lake Shelbyville will be closed starting the evening of Monday, September 2, 2024, through approximately 5p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2024, for a fish habitat placement project. The closures apply to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. These closures are necessary to provide safety for workers and members of the public while work is being conducted.
The Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance, Illinois Department of Natural Resources Fisheries and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently hosted a build where 33 volunteers constructed 100 artificial fish habitat structures. The project is part of ongoing efforts to replace important fish habitat that has been lost at Lake Shelbyville due to decay, siltation, and flooding with long-lasting habitat beneficial to the lake and anglers alike. These efforts are a partnership between Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance, Illinois Department of Natural Resources Fisheries, Illinois Natural History Survey and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recognizes the impact of facility closures on the general public and apologizes for any inconveniences it may cause. For additional information, contact the Lake Shelbyville Project Office at (217) 774-3951.
