Marshall, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Marshall Public Library, in partnership with the Clark County Historical Society, is thrilled to present the traveling exhibit “All Aboard the Orphan Train!” This compelling exhibit, on display now through November 10th, explores one of the most significant social movements in American history. It is made possible by a grant from the National Orphan Train Complex in Concordia, KS.
A unique program featuring Clark County’s Orphan Train will be held on Thursday, November 7th, at 6:30 PM at Harlan Hall. It will be presented by Marshall Public Library Head Librarian and IL Humanities Road Scholar Jamie Poorman. No registration is required.

This exhibit offers a unique opportunity for visitors to learn about the Orphan Train Movement, which operated from 1854 to 1929, and its profound impact on thousands of children across the United States.

The exhibit sheds light on the vital roles of orphan train agents, who placed children in homes and undertook various duties to ensure their welfare. Additionally, visitors will learn about the criteria used by organizations like the New York Foundling Hospital to approve foster families and how these decisions shaped the lives of the children in their care.
