Teutopolis, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Teutopolis CUSD #50 is celebrating an Exemplary designation, and two Commendable designations for the second straight year, as the Illinois State Board of Education releases the 2024 Illinois Report Card.
Data for the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) shows that 73.5% of students in Grades 3-8 Meet or Exceed state standards in English Language Arts and 60.2% of students in Grades 3-8 Meet or Exceed in Mathematics. These data points far surpass state averages and place Teutopolis amongst the top performing schools in downstate. The result is Commendable designations at both Teutopolis Grade School and Teutopolis Junior High School.
For the second year in a row, Teutopolis High School has achieved an Exemplary designation. With nearly a thirteen percentage point jump in high school students Meeting or Exceeding state standards in English Language Arts and nearly five percentage point increase in Mathematics, Teutopolis students outperform the state average on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) by 163%.
Academic achievement is the historical expectation for the school system, but recent incremental gains reflect the district’s investments in hiring and retaining of high quality staff, building efforts in school improvement planning, and the ongoing commitment of our students and support of their families.
“Community members should be well pleased with our students, staff and schools as we celebrate another year of outstanding academic achievement,” said Superintendent Matthew Sturgeon. “Continued growth, expansion of programs, and diversification of the student experience are our goals as we intellectually, emotionally, and socially support our students as they become the best versions of themselves. Our dedicated Wooden Shoe team continues to look for opportunities to improve the work we do for the students we love.”
Teutopolis CUSD #50 also saw a continuation of above average percentages in teacher retention, student graduation and attendance. Combined with small class sizes and per pupil expenditure at just $9,349 per student, Teutopolis continues its tradition of excellence, thanks to the dedication and commitment of the district’s outstanding staff, families, and community partners.
In addition to its impressive achievements in the past year, Teutopolis is committed to continuous school improvement. In the upcoming school years, our educators, administrators and Board of Education look forward to focusing on facility improvements to enhance the instructional environment, as well as continued expansion and adjustment of programs and services to meet the changing needs of our students and community. Teutopolis CUSD #50 will engage parents, families, and community partners in its ongoing efforts in continuous improvement and in accomplishing its established strategic goals.
